At first, it was funny I thought when people put some area rugs on their house wall; why do they have to do that? Isn’t it better to apply some pictures or photos or other unique accessories on it? Why do these people consider that other people, like me, would also have the same sense of the house owners? Do they really think their coming guests will enjoy the stuck-on-the-wall rugs? Nevertheless, I never thought about it seriously, and sometimes I just consider that the house owners must be kinds of unique people.
Yet my paradigm then soon changed when I was invited to my boss’s house for his daughter’s third birthday party. I saw that almost every inches of his house inner wall is covered by rugs, many area rugs, with various motives and colors. Some of them are so confusing and even plain in my opinion though some are quite interesting for my sight. They had even made me stuck on my place for minutes when my boss’s wife approached me smiling nicely and said that the rug was bought in Korea. Korea?! That is an absolutely remote place just to get this rug! Ok, perhaps they were there during some business or recreation, but why rugs? Why didn’t they bring home some souvenirs or gifts? What actually are in these people mind about rugs on the wall?
Slowly, I caught the points that the basic thing of applying rugs on the wall is for beauty, the beauty of the inner side of the house. A very fascinating look and smooth fur material of rugs on the wall are much more than the prestige itself. Other thing to know is that more rugs are on the wall could help resist sound and absorb noise. And in some countries, as my boss’s wife kept on talking to me, there are many cheap rugs to choose because the different value of currency. Honestly, she said, most of the rugs on the wall in front of me were gained with very reasonable price. The prices vary from the difference of the material, numbers of colors and motives. She said that more abstract the motive is, the more expensive the rugs would be. Gee, I didn’t know that, yet I finally comprehend and laugh at myself, ‘why could I be so silly until I don’t know the function’.
